At The United Nations Security Council Private Meeting On The Situation In The Middle East Including The Palestinian Question: The Humanitarian Situation In The Gaza Strip

This was an urgent meeting requested by France and the United Kingdom and supported by Algeria.

In a statement delivered by Deputy Political Coordinator, Minister Counsellor Sonia Umu Karim, Sierra Leone:

•⁠ ⁠Paid tribute to UN personnel and humanitarian aid workers who have tragically lost their lives while serving humanity in Gaza.

•⁠ ⁠Supported the ongoing assessment and reconfiguration of humanitarian operations to ensure staff safety and operational effectivenes.

•⁠ ⁠Stressed that the weaponization of aid is a grave violation of international humanitarian law (IHL), including the Geneva Conventions.

•⁠ ⁠Highlighted that binding provisional measures issued by the International Court of Justice (ICJ) in the Application of the Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide in the Gaza Strip (South Africa v. Israel), are binding under Article 41 of the ICJ Statute.

•⁠ ⁠Echoed the call of the Secretary-General for full, prompt, and impartial investigations into all incidents involving attacks on humanitarian workers and operations, and for accountability in accordance with international law.
