On 3rd June 2024, the Permanent Representative of Sierra Leone to the United Nations, H.E. Dr. Michael Imran Kanu held a bilateral meeting with the Permanent Observer of ECOWAS to the United Nations, H.E. Mme. Kinza Jawara Njai at the ECOWAS Permanent Observer Mission to the United Nations.
The two Representatives discussed issues of great interest to the West African region, including on the implementation of the recently adopted Security Council Presidential Statement on West Africa and the Sahel, the active participation of ECOWAS in the Arria Formular Meeting of the UN Security Council focusing on countering terrorism in the region, to be convened by Sierra Leone on 19 June 2024, and the monumental celebration of ECOWAS Day at the UNHQ on 7th June 2024.
Both Representative, inter alia, made the commitment to explore avenues for cooperation and mutual support, particularly during the August 2024 Sierra Leone presidency of the UN Security Council.
