Sierra Leone’s Minister of Social Welfare, Madam
Melrose Karminty and delegation have attended the opening ceremony of the 17th session of the Conference of
the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, at the United Nations General Assembly Hall in New York.
The Minister is expected to deliver a national statement tomorrow on the commitments of the government of Sierra Leone in promoting disability issues .
In accordance with the decisions made by the Conference of States Parties on June 15, 2023, this session will include the election of nine members to the Committee on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.
The Permanent Mission of Sierra Leone to the United Nations and partner organizations will host a side event to raise awareness about the abilities of persons with disabilities, promote discussion on socio-economic empowerment programs, and explore funding opportunities to support such initiatives.
