The ten elected members of the Security Council expressed their deep concern about the attacks on a number of UNIFIL positions on 10th and 11th October in which several peacekeepers were injured.
They called on all parties to respect international humanitarian law and the safety and security of UNIFIL personnel and premises. They underscored that any deliberate attack on peacekeepers is a grave violation of international humanitarian law and Security Council resolution 1701 (2006) and must stop immediately.
They reiterated their support to UNIFIL and underscored its role in supporting regional stability.
They also expressed their deep concern about rising civilian casualties and suffering, the destruction of civilian infrastructure and the growing number of internally displaced people in Lebanon. They further called for an immediate ceasefire, strict compliance with international humanitarian law and for the full respect and implementation of Security Council resolution 1701 (2006).
