At the #UN Security Council meeting under the “Maintenance of international peace and security” agenda item, Security Council members voted by 12 votes for to extend the monthly reporting requirement for the Secretary-General on attacks by the Houthi rebel group in Yemen on merchant and commercial vessels in the Red Sea for a further six months (until 15th January 2026). Sierra Leone voted in favor of the extension resolution.
There were 3 abstentions.
This extension comes against the 6th and 7th July Houthi attacks against commercial vessels in the Red Sea, which reportedly resulted in at least four dead.
