The Peace Expo included introducing the UN community to delicious Sierra Leonean cuisine at “A Taste of Sierra Leone” food tasting event, to amazing performances and fashion at our Peace Concert, and sharing our rich heritage and commitment to global unity. 🌍✨
In his keynote address to attendees (including Permanent Representatives, other diplomats and members of the Sierra Leone diaspora), H.E. Brig (Rtd.) Dr. Julius Maada Bio, President of the Republic of Sierra Leone who stated that:
“As we have done all of the highlighted important work together, tonight’s event is to celebrate peace. To acknowledge the success stories, and to provide hope to those in despair. Over the past month, we have worked tirelessly to advance the cause of peace, promote dialogue, and foster cooperation among nations. As we bring our presidency to a close, we do so with a deepened commitment to the principles of peace and security that are the bedrock of our shared humanity.”
Following the welcome remarks by H.E. Dr. Michael Imran Kanu, Permanent Representative of Sierra Leone to the UN, Statements were also made by the Permanent Representative of Senegal in his capacity as ECOWAS Dean, H.E. Cheikh Niang; Ahunna Eziakonwa, United Nations Assistant Secretary-General and the United Nations Development Program Assistant Administrator and Director, Regional Bureau for Africa; Ambassador Fatima Kyari Mohammed Permanent Observer of the African Union to the UN; and Reverend Irene Cole of Sierra Leone’s Inter-religious Council.
